Shellfish Equipment Page - Skim

We are pleased to announce the introduction the UK of the new SKIM protein skimmer from Acqua & Co, Italy.

The Skim was introduced in Europe more than a year ago and was initially used in the shellfish industry for the depuration of mussels and other shellfish.

However, it has also proved invaluable in the foodstuffs industry in general where it has been used for a number of applications in the recovery of valuable food additives which would other-wise have been lost to waste.

The foam produced is directed to a reaction chamber, is liquefied and is evacuated far from the pond by pumping. The water, well filtered and oxygenated, goes out of the system circulating through the pond.
The foam mounts through an adjustable chimney and falls into the condensation cupel.
This accumulated foam is condensate and liquefied. When reaching the level, the liquid foam clicks on the switch to start the extraction pump to evacuate the condensate by a pipe to a high volume tank.

Installation in a bi-valve purification system: the SKIM is to be installed directly into the pond to be treated or in a peripheric tank.

The system installed in the pond will supply a controlled oxygenation (hours time) and an artificial water flow.
This application will guarantee an homogenisation of the water temperature as well of the dissolved oxygen. Furthermore, the water flow will re-suspend sediment of the bottom to be water inlet of the skim.
